LANAP® LASER DENTISTRY AT CORBIN DENTAL

LANAP® (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) laser dentistry can provide important benefits for the patient experience, recovery time, and the accuracy of treatment. Dental lasers can be used in a range of treatments addressing damage to the teeth or gums, frenectomy, and cosmetic concerns regarding the gum line.

Corbin Dental offers laser dentistry including advanced treatments for gum disease and periodontitis using LANAP® laser dentistry in Bayside and Oyster Bay. This dental treatment can help patients with the effects of advanced gum disease. Those who are experiencing dramatic changes in their bite and the stability of their teeth benefit the most!

LANAP® laser dentistry is a minimally invasive procedure for restoring gum health using laser energy. The process can precisely target damaged tissue to remove infection and stimulate natural healing.

LANAP® LASER DENTISTRY: HOW DOES IT WORK?

LANAP® uses the advanced PerioLase® MVP-7™ dental laser to specifically target only damaged tissue. This leaves healthy tissue intact and stimulates the body’s natural healing response to regenerate new, healthy gum tissue after treatment. Cleared by the FDA in 2004 to treat gum disease, LANAP laser dentistry is an alternative to traditional gum surgery, providing an improved patient experience, no need for sutures, and faster healing times.

This is an advanced procedure and no other laser can be used for this treatment. It’s the only laser out there that’s designed to specifically target damaged tissue. The precision of this procedure is something that’s unmatched, even by other dental lasers.

Benefits of LANAP® include:

  • NO drill
  • NO sutures
  • Less bleeding and swelling
  • Shorter recovery times
  • Less gum tissue loss
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Promotes the regeneration of gum tissue

LANAP® VS. TRADITIONAL GUM SURGERY

Traditional gum surgery is a more invasive process. A scalpel is used so that your gum tissue can be peeled back, exposing the roots of your teeth. This allows us to see the jawbone and perform a deep cleaning on the roots of your teeth and the surrounding area. If there are any defects to the bone, you may need to have the bone reshaped or a bone graft may need to be done. The gums are sutured back into place, with the goal of minimizing the size of the gum pockets that have developed. However, diseased tissue still has to be used to do so.

With LANAP® it’s completely different. No scalpel or sutures need to be used. A laser fiber is inserted into the gum pockets that have formed. The technology of the laser only targets the diseased tissue, destroying that and any bacteria present. An ultrasonic tool is used to completely clean the tooth roots. The laser is then able to seal the gums back up around your tooth. The area will heal naturally and the laser prompts regeneration of gum tissue to take care of gum pockets with new, healthy tissue.

LANAP® FOR INFLAMED IMPLANTS

Though dental implants have an over 95% success rate, occasionally issues do happen. The area around the implant can get inflamed, which can lead to harm and degeneration in the surrounding bone and tissue. If left alone, this can cause the implant to fail. However, using the LAPIP protocol, LANAP® can be used to kill the bacteria that are causing the inflammation, and spur regeneration of bone and tissue.

LANAP® LASER DENTISTRY FOR BONE REGROWTH

LANAP® laser dentistry is considered safe and proven effective for patients who are diabetic or on an aspirin regimen. It is also a treatment option for addressing periodontal concerns and poor gum health before the placement of dental implants. LANAP® can help regrow bone tissue commonly lost in patients with periodontal disease. Stable bone is essential for a successful dental implant when replacing missing teeth.

LANAP® is unique in the ability to do this. Studies have shown its abilities to stabilize and encourage bone growth, as well as the reattachment of gum ligamentation. It promotes gum tissue generation, too. LANAP® has been designated as the gold standard of regeneration. The FDA stated that it not only repairs bone damage that was done by gum disease but completely regrows bone in this area.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS LANAP® TREATMENT?

As shown in the above images, LANAP® has very good results in both the short and long term. All of the tissue regeneration LANAP® promotes helps to protect the gums from any further infection. It also sterilizes during the procedure, making it less likely for infection to reoccur. Because the healing is quicker and less painful, it makes it easier for you to follow the aftercare routine that follows your procedure. This means those routines are more successful.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR LANAP® LASER DENTISTRY?

Dr. Richard or Dr. Bruce Corbin can evaluate the condition of your gums to determine the stage and extent of disease and damage. Most patients can be considered a candidate for LANAP® laser dentistry, even those who may be seeking an alternative to recommended gum surgery.

The first step is to schedule a visit to one of our New York area dental offices in Bayside and Oyster Bay. We will work with you on an individual basis to identify your needs, discuss your cosmetic goals and create a personalized treatment plan for restoring healthy gums.

HOW LONG IS LANAP® LASER DENTISTRY TREATMENT?

LANAP® is completed over the course of two office visits. Each visit will be approximately 2 hours, during which your Corbin dentist will use the dental laser to address tissue damage, first on one side of the mouth and the other side at the second visit. If necessary, we will also provide treatment for teeth that have become loose or need to be strengthened with a crown to support the best possible outcome.
