Straightening crooked teeth without having visible braces has expanded the use of orthodontic treatment for teen and adult patients. Many avoid braces because of appearance and experience complex dental concerns as a result.
Your cosmetic dentists at Corbin Dental are Invisalign® providers in the Queens and Long Island NY area. Our two dental office locations in Bayside and Oyster Bay offer this treatment option to address a range of cosmetic dental needs with discreet care.
WHAT IS INVISALIGN?
Invisalign is a set of clear aligners that are custom-made to reposition your teeth according to your unique treatment plan. The aligners fit over the teeth much like a mouthguard, and are virtually unnoticeable while in place. Invisalign offers several benefits for patients when compared to traditional metal braces, including:
- Clear, discreet treatment- no one has to know you are wearing braces
- Comfortable aligners that will not irritate the soft tissues and gums
- Aligners are removable for the enjoyment of your favorite foods and to brush and floss daily.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR INVISALIGN?
Candidacy for Invisalign is determined after a dental exam, digital diagnostics, and a discussion of your cosmetic goals and expectations. Invisalign can treat mild to moderate concerns including:
- Crooked teeth
- Malocclusion: overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite
- Gaps between teeth, diastemas
- Orthodontic relapse in adults
INVISALIGN TREATMENT IN QUEENS NY
The Invisalign process begins with a consultation to determine if Invisalign is the best solution for your dental health needs. Your Queens NY dentist will examine the fit and function of the bite and take digital impressions of your teeth to evaluate your smile and create a personalized treatment plan using 3-D imagery and CAD/CAM software. The specifications for your new smile are sent to the Invisalign lab where your custom aligners will be made. The number of aligners you receive will depend on the estimated treatment time and treatment goals.
We will schedule a visit to place the first set of aligners and go over how and when to change aligners during treatment. Aligners are to be worn for 20-22 hours a day. They are made from a unique hard-soft plastic material and designed to have a low profile, which minimizes irritation and provides a comfortable fit.
Routine dental care and a regular daily routine of brushing and flossing can be completed easily by removing aligners. This will maintain your oral health while we straighten your smile.
Once your treatment is complete it is important to wear a retainer daily while sleeping or for a specified amount of time. This maintains your new tooth position and supports a lasting outcome.
HOW LONG IS INVISALIGN TREATMENT?
Treatment time is dependent upon the severity of your dental concern and your cosmetic goals. We will provide an estimated treatment time after your consultation and we will adjust as needed during treatment after checkup visits.
INVISALIGN FAQS
What can you not do with Invisalign?
Patients with Invisalign should avoid scratching, biting, playing with and chewing on their aligners. Patients should also be careful to avoid getting their aligners dirty, and should brush them on a daily basis.
How quickly do teeth move with Invisalign?
Patients with Invisalign should notice a difference in their smile after about six weeks of treatment. Some patients’ teeth may respond faster to treatment and they may notice their teeth shifting after a few weeks.
What happens if I don’t wear my Invisalign for 22 hours a day?
In order for Invisalign to be successful patients must wear their aligners for 20-22 hours per day. Patients who fail to wear their aligners for this time will have delayed results, and their trays may feel as if they do not fit properly causing discomfort.
Can I wear my Invisalign just at night?
Patients with Invisalign aligners need to wear them during the day and night. Aligners should only be removed while eating or drinking. If you only wear your aligners at night treatment will not be on schedule and may be unsuccessful.
Can I drink coffee through a straw with Invisalign?
Patients should remove Invisalign before drinking coffee, tea, or anything hot. The heat can warp and change the shape of the plastic, which may result in the need for an entirely new set of aligners.
Can you wear Invisalign only on top teeth?
Most treatment with Invisalign involves both your top and bottom sets of teeth. Some patients may receive single arch treatment, which specifically focuses on one set of teeth, depending on the needs of the patient.
