Dental Implant FAQs
What are dental implants?
Dental implants consist of a titanium post, abutment, and dental crown. During treatment, the titanium post is surgically inserted into the jawbone. Over a healing period of 3 to 6 months, the post fuses with bone tissue for a stable solution. Following this period, Dr. Corbin connects the titanium post to the dental crown with an abutment. Dental crowns cover implants like a cap and are crafted from porcelain ceramic to blend in with natural teeth.
Are dental implants painful?
During the dental implant procedure, we use anesthesia to numb the treated area. Although you may feel some pain after the procedure, excessive pain is abnormal. Please contact our office if you are in pain for days after the procedure.
Can you receive implants after a tooth extraction?
Sometimes we can extract a tooth and replace it with a dental implant on the same day. However, this is not the case for all of our patients. It is important to keep in mind that waiting too long to place a dental implant can make the procedure more difficult to perform,. If you require a tooth extraction, schedule a replacement treatment as soon as possible.
What are the benefits of dental implants?
Dental implants offer durability, longevity, and improved oral health to patients who are missing teeth. Implants can prevent common problems that arise from missing teeth, including:
- Shifting teeth
- Speech issues
- Misaligned bite
- Tooth decay
